Sister Mildred Stellmack 1921-2013

Please pray for the repose of the soul of Sister Mildred Stellmack (S. Mary Ephrem) who passed away on Aug. 22 of congestive heart failure at St. Clare Hospital in Fenton, Mo. She was 92 years old.

Sister Mildred was born on May 8, 1921, to parents John and Anna (Albrecht) Stellmack in Indianapolis, Ind. She entered the Sisters of St. Joseph of Carondelet on September 15, 1940, and made her final profession on August 15, 1939. She received a bachelor's degree in history from Loretto Heights College, Denver, Colo.,  in 1952.

For 53  of her 70 years as a Sister of St. Joseph, S. Mildred served in primary education. She began teaching in 1943 at Holy Guarding Angels Grade School in St. Louis. Five years later, she moved to Denver  to teach at St. Francis de Sales Grade School. She then moved to Kansas City in 1951 and taught for the next nine years at Visitation Grade School before going to St. Roch Grade School in Indianapolis. 

In 1965, Sister Mildred returned to St. Louis and taught at St. Magdalen Grade School, where she remained for the following ten years. She moved to Chicago in 1975 and served as primary teacher for 11 years and as a tutor for one year at St Bede the Venerable Grade School. 

In 1987 she once more went back to her native city of Indianapolis where she remained until her retirement. She was a teacher's aide at Our Lady of Lourdes Grade School two years and tutored at St. Jude School from 1991 to 1996. She then left teaching to care for her family until retiring to Nazareth Living Center in 2008.

A Memorial Mass will be held Thursday, Aug. 29 at the Nazareth Living Center Chapel at 10:00 a.m.  S. Mildred donated her body to science.
