Sister Mary Loran Aubuchon

Please pray for the repose of the soul of Sister Mary Loran Aubuchon, CSJ who passed away on Aug. 16 at St. Anthony's Hospital in St. Louis, Mo. She was 81 years old.

Parents Raymond and Agnes (Schoener) Aubuchon welcomed Dorothy Ann to the world on September 17, 1932. She entered the Sisters of St. Joseph of Carondelet on September 15, 1950, and made her final profession on August 15, 1958 as S. Mary Loran.

In 1963, S. Mary Loran received her bachelor’s degree in mathematics from Fontbonne College, St. Louis. She continued her education, obtaining a master’s in education/secondary counseling/guidance from St. Louis University in 1970.

S. Mary Loran began her ministry as a teacher in parochial grades. She taught at St. Agnes, Holy Name, St. Patrick and St. Roch grade schools in St. Louis and at Sts. Mary and Joseph Grade School in Sedalia, Mo. 

In 1963, she taught high school at St. Joseph's Academy in Green Bay, Wis., and at the Academy of Our Lady in Peoria, Ill.  She served as a counselor at St. Thomas Aquinas High School in St. Louis for seven years ending in 1979.

She then began her parish ministry in Colorado.  S. Mary Loran received training in Denver and served as a youth minister at St. Mary's Parish in Littleton, Colo., for  five years.  She served as a counselor in 1985 at St. Francis de Sales High School in Denver then as a secretary at Colorado Regional Development Office. 

In 1988 she began  her 34-year ministry in elder care at UpJohn Healthcare Service in Denver. She returned to St. Louis in 1989 to serve as activities/volunteer coordinator at Nazareth Living Center for four years.  S. Mary Loran served the next nine years at Carondelet Senior Center as assistant director. 

She became the geriatric nutrition coordinator at Five Church Older Adult Center in St. Louis in 2002.  The center changed names in 2005 to Five Star Senior Center and S. Mary Loran became the activity coordinator, a title she held until her passing.

 She is survived by her sister-in-law, Mrs. Leonard (Dorothy) Aubuchon.
