Please pray for the repose of the soul of Sister Mary Jane Kappus who departed this life on Friday, April 30 at Nazareth Living Center in St. Louis. She was 86 and died of congestive heart failure.

Sister Jane was born in Eau Claire, Wisconsin. She entered the Fransiscan Sisters of Perpetual Adoration at St. Rose Convent in LaCrosse, Wisconsin in 1942.  In 1975 Sister Jane was recieved into the novitiate of the Sisters of St. Joseph of Carondelet.

She received a bachelor's degree in English and music from Viterbo College in La Crosse, Wisconsin in 1960 and a master's in education and administration from Marquette University in Milwaukee in 1969.

Sister Jane served in parish ministry at St. Rose of Lima in Houston (1976-1982) and at Our Lady of the Pillar Parish in St. Louis (1982-1988). In the late 1980s she was the associate director of the Rural Ministry Education Institute in St. Louis. She also served as the adult education coordinator at St. Gerard Majella Parish in Kirkwood, Missouri from 1996-2005.

Sister Jane then worked as a spirtual director and companion until her retirement  to Nazareth Living Center in 2009 where she carried out her ministry of prayer and witness.

Services will be held Wednesday, May 5 at the Nazareth Living Center Chapel, 2 Nazareth Lane, St. Louis, MO 63129. The viewing will be at 9 a.m. and Mass of the Resurrection at 10 a.m. with burial immediately following at Resurrection Cemetery.
