Please pray for the respose of the soul of Sister Mary Denis Curran, CSJ who passed away December 23 of heart failure at Barnes-Jewish Hospital in St. Louis, Mo. She was 84 years of age.

S. Mary Denis was born in St. Louis to parents Daniel Joseph and Helen (Eckardt) Curran. She entered the Sisters of St. Joseph of Carondelet on September 15, 1950, and made her final profession on August 15, 1958. She received her bachelor's degree (1949) and master's (1964) in English from St. Louis University in St. Louis.

For more than 55 years, S. Mary Denis' mission in life was serving as a teacher, including 36 years teaching English at Rosati-Kain High School in St. Louis (1956-1957 and 1973-2008). She also taught at Sacred Heart Grade, High Schools in Indianapolis; St. Roch and St. Thomas of Aquin Grade Schools in St. Louis; St. Thomas of Aquinas High School in Florissant, Mo.; and Little Flower High School in Chicago.

In 2008 S. Mary Denis retired from teaching and continued to serve at Rosati-Kain as a volunteer. She remained there until her passing.

She is survived by her brother, Robert Curran of Valley Park, Mo.

Services were held December 28 at Nazareth Living Center in St. Louis. She is buried at Resurrection Cemetery.
