Please pray for the respose of the soul of Sister Mary Anne Smith, CSJ (S. Margaret Patrice) who passed away on Monday, December 19 of acute CVA at Nazareth Living Center in St. Louis. She was 77 years of age.

S. Mary Anne was born in Peoria, Ill., to parents Clarence William and Lucille (Rohman) Smith. She entered the Sisters of St. Joseph of Carondelet on September 15, 1952, and made her final profession on August 15, 1960.

She received her bachelor's degree in elementary education from Fontbonne College in St. Louis in 1965 and then her master's in elementary education administration from the University of Notre Dame in Notre Dame, Ind., in 1973.

S. Mary Anne served as a teacher and administrator for more than 20 years from 1955-1978 including St. Roch, St. Gregory, St. Teresa of Avila and St. Anthony of Padue Schools in St. Louis. She also taught in Alabama, Oklahoma and Illinois.

From 1978-1986, S. Mary Anne went on to serve as regional superior for the CSJs at their St. Joseph Provincial House in St. Louis. Then, after studying for a year at the House of Affirmation in Natick, Mass., she returned to the provincial house and served as formation director/director of novices (19787-1989) and coordinator of new members (1989-1993).

Five years later, S. Mary Anne became counselor at Saints Joachim and Ann School in St. Charles, Mo. In 2004 she retired and served as a volunteer in Kansas City, Mo. She then moved to Nazareth Living Center in 2011.

A Memorial Mass will be held Friday, December 23 at 10:00 a.m. at Nazareth Living Center Chapel, 2 Nazareth Lane, St. Louis, Mo. 63129. S. Mary Anne's body was cremated and her ashes will be interred at Resurrection Cemetery.
