Sister Margaret Mary Hamm

April 16, 1943 – November 3, 2014

Please pray for the repose of the soul of Sister Margaret Hamm (S. Margaret Helen) who passed away on Nov. 3 at her home in St. Louis, Mo. She was 71 years of age.

Sister Margaret  was born on April 16, 1943, to parents Edward Jude and Helen Marie (Klosterman) Hamm  in St. Louis. She entered the Sisters of St. Joseph of Carondelet on September 8, 1965, and professed her final vows on August 25, 1973. 

During her 48 years as a Sister of St. Joseph, S. Margaret devoted her life and skills to aid others in healing, mostly in physical therapy. She began as the director of physical therapy in 1970 at the old St. Joseph Hospital located in Kirkwood, Mo.  In 1984, she received her master's in hospital administration. That same year she went on to serve as administrative resident at Coordinated Services in Wichita, Kan., and then St. Rose Hospital in Hayward, Calif.

She returned to St. Joseph Hospital in 1985 as the assistant administrator for St. Joseph Hospital. Five years later, S. Margaret was a participant for the Emmaus House in St. Louis before continuing her service in physical therapy in the St. Louis, Mo. area for the next 22 years.

She was a physical therapist at Barnes Jewish Hospital in 1992, at BJC Rehabilitation and Fitness Center in 1996, and at Barnes Care in St. Louis in 1997, then in St. Peters in 1998.

S. Margaret attend the Barbara Brennan School of Healing in 2002 until 2006.  She began a 10-year association in 2004 with Core Services in St. Louis as a physical therapist.  In 2006, she began her own private practice, Energetic Healing Therapy, in which she employed her newly learned method of integrative energy healing.  

Family, friends and the CSJ community gathered for a funeral Mass on Nov. 7 at the Sisters of St. Joseph of Carondelet Motherhouse. Interment is at Calvary Cemetery.

S. Margaret  is survived by her brother Edward Hamm of Chesterfield, Mo.
