Sister Margaret Eugene Tucker 1917-2017

 

Please pray for the repose of the soul of Sister Margaret Eugene Tucker, who passed away on December 17, 2017, at Nazareth Living Center in St. Louis, Missouri. She was 100 years of age.

Sister Margaret Eugene Tucker, baptized Mary Angelica, was born in East Peoria, Illinois, on February 18, 1917. She entered the Sisters of St. Joseph of Carondelet in 1942. She received a bachelor’s degree in home economics/science from Fontbonne College in 1955 and a master’s degree in education from St. Louis University in 1957, with further study in science at the University of Notre Dame.

Sister Margaret spent most of her years in teaching in the Archdiocese of St. Louis, beginning in the 1940s serving at St. Vincent and Valle Grade Schools. In the 1950s she taught at St. Anthony High School and at St. Joseph’s Academy. 

She began her 25 years of service at Fontbonne University as faculty and administrative staff member in 1960, and  she was a highly-regarded biology professor there. 

In 1986 she became the St. Joseph’s Academy Convent administrator, and served there for 21 years.

Since 2007 Sister Margaret resided at Nazareth Living Center, where she carried out her ministry of prayer and presence.

A Memorial Mass was held Dec. 20 at 3:30 p.m. at Nazareth Living Center.
