Please pray for the repose of the soul of Sister Ellen Hucker (S. Aurelia) who passed away on June 23 of pneumonia at Nazareth Living Center in St. Louis. She was 90 years old.

S. Ellen was born on March 19, 1922, in St. Louis, Mo., to Aurelius and Ellen (Raus) Hucker. On Sept. 15, 1946, S. Ellen entered the Sisters of St. Joseph of Carondelet. She made her final vows on Aug. 15, 1952. S. Ellen received a bachelor’s degree in history from the College of St. Teresa in Kansas City, Mo., in 1958.

In 1949, S. Ellen began her 65 years of service as a CSJ teaching in Colorado at St. Patrick Grade School in Denver and St. Mary Grade School in Littleton (1951-1952). She moved to Kansas City in 1952 and taught at Visitation Grade School for the next five years. In 1957, she taught for a year at St. Roch Grade School in Indianapolis, Ind., before transferring to the state of Illinois where she taught at St. Mary Cathedral Grade School in Peoria (1958-1962) and St. Bede the Venerable Grade School in Chicago (1962-1964). She then taught for one year at the Hannibal Catholic Grade School in Hannibal, Mo.

S. Ellen moved back to Chicago in 1965, teaching at St. Viator Grade School. She returned to St. Bede the Venerable Grade School in 1971 serving as their secretary. She remained there for the next 13 years before leaving for Missouri once more.

Upon her return to St. Louis, S. Ellen served at the St. Joseph Provincial House as a receptionist/secretary (1984-1985, 1986-1989), finance office staff member (1986-1989) and housekeeper (1997-2000). She was also the secretary (1985-1986) and library aide (1993-1997) at St. Anthony of Padua Grade School.

S. Ellen retired in 2000 and moved to Nazareth Living Center in 2001 where she ministered in prayer/witness.

S. Ellen donated her body to the St. Louis University Medical Center. A Memorial Mass was held on June 27 at the Nazareth Living Center Chapel.
