Sister Edward Cecilia Schniedermeier, CSJ 1927-2018

Please pray for the repose of the soul of Sister Edward Cecilia Schniedermeier, CSJ who passed away on May 12 at Nazareth Living Center in St. Louis, Missouri. She was 91 years of age.

Sister Mary Ellen Jones, baptized Audrey Marcella, was born on May 12, 1927, in St. Louis, Missouri, to parents Edward C. and Ester (Nonnekamp0) Schniedermeier. She entered the Sisters of St. Joseph on September 15, 1945, and made her final profession on August 15, 1951. She received a bachelor’s degree in Latin from Fontbonne College in 1958 and a master’s degree in education, curriculum/instruction from Marquette University in 1967.

Sister Edward Cecilia served in education for 54 years. She began teaching on the elementary level in 1948 at Valle Grade School in Ste. Genevieve, Missouri.  In St. Louis, she taught grade school at St. Anthony of Padua from 1951 to 1955 and then at Saints John and James from 1955 to 1958.

Transitioning to the high school level, Sister Edward Cecilia taught Latin in Chicago, Illinois, at Little Flower High School from 1958 to 1971: in Kansas City, Missouri, at St. Teresa’s Academy from 1971 to 1978 ; in Indianapolis, Indiana, at Roncalli High School from 1978 to 1988 and at Cathedral High School from 1988 to 1992. For the next 10 years, Sister Edward Cecilia was a substitute teacher in the Indianapolis Archdiocese.

Since 2002, Sister Edward Cecilia had been living at Nazareth Living Center carrying out her ministry of prayer and presence

Viewing will be held May 15 at 8:30-9:30 at Fey Funeral Home, 4200 Lemay Ferry Road, St. Louis, Missouri.  A memorial Mass will follow 10 a.m. at Nazareth Living Center, 2 Nazareth Lane, St. Louis, MO 63129.
