Sister Edith Vogel CSJ 1923-2017

Please pray for the repose of the soul of Sister Edith Vogel who passed away on Feb. 6 at Nazareth Living Center in St. Louis, Missouri. She was 93 years of age.
Sister Edith was born on February 15, 1923, in St. Louis, Missouri, to parents Louis George and Odeal Mary (Terbrak) Vogel. She entered the Sisters of St. Joseph on February 11, 1947 and made her final profession on August 15, 1952.
She earned her bachelor’s degree in elementary education/history from Fontbonne College in 1961.
Sister Edith served in elementary education for her first 30-plus years of ministry, beginning in Chicago, Illinois at St. Viator for 11 years. She returned to St. Louis and taught at Our Lady of the Presentation (1960-1964); St. Margaret of Scotland (1964-1971); Holy Name (1971-1974). She served at St. Joseph’s Home for Boys in numerous capacities from 1974 to 1980, including as principal.
Sister Edith transitioned into administrative roles, serving her CSJ community at Nazareth Convent as the administrative secretary in the 1980s and at the St. Joseph Provincialate as the receptionist/secretary for the St. Louis Province Finance office in the 1990s.
Retiring in 1998, Sister Edith continued to serve her CSJ community as a volunteer at the St. Joseph Province House for the next 14 years.
Since 2012, Sister Edith lived at Nazareth Living Center in St. Louis, carrying on her ministry of prayer and presence.
The funeral Mass will be held Feb. 9 at 10 a.m. at Nazareth Living Center, with viewing at 9 a.m.
