Please pray for the repose of the soul of Sister Dorothy Scheidler (S. Anne Alfred) who departed this life on Friday, March 12 at Nazareth Living Center in St. Louis. She was 86 and died of cardiomyopathy.

Sister Dorothy was born in Champaign, Ill. in 1923, entered the Sisters of St. Joseph of Carondelet in 1941 and was received into novitiate in 1942.

She received a bachelor’s degree in education from Fontbonne College in 1959 and a master’s in education from the University of Notre Dame in 1968.

Sister Dorothy served as a teacher and administrator in elementary education for more than 30 years from 1944-1980 including St. Mary Magdalen and St. Patrick/All Saints Grade Schools in St. Louis. She also taught in Oklahoma, Michigan, Georgia and Indianapolis.

After teaching, in 1981, Sister Dorothy went on to serve as pastoral associate at St. Joseph Hospital in Kirkwood, Mo. Thirteen years later, she then became a volunteer at Holy Angels School in Indianapolis from 1994-2002.

Sister Dorothy retired in 2002 and moved to Nazareth Living Center where she carried out her ministry of prayer and witness.

Sister Dorothy donated her body to St. Louis University Medical Center. A Memorial Mass will be held Monday, March 22 at 10 a.m. at Nazareth Living Center Chapel.
