Please pray for the respose of the soul of Sister Colette Marie Doering, CSJ who passed away December 26 at St. Joseph Medical Center in Kansas City, Mo. She was 89 years old.

S. Colette was born in St. Louis to parents Joseph Augustus and Mary Veronica (Vornhulz) Doering. She entered the Sisters of St. Joseph of Carondelet on September 15, 1943, and made her final profession on August 15, 1949.

She received a bachelor's degree in art from Fontbonne College in St. Louis in 1949 and then a master's in art from the University of Illinois - Champaign in Urbana, Ill., in 1957.

Art was S. Colette's passion. She spent her life ministering as an artist and teaching her love of art to others. She taught art for more than 35 years from 1951-1990 including St. Joseph's Academy in St. Louis, and Redemptorist High School and Avila College both in Kansas City, Mo. She also taught elementary education at Sts. John and James (1946-1950) and St. Cecilia (1950-1951) Schools.

After retiring from teaching in 1990, S. Colette served as an artist in residence in Overland Park, Kan. She also worked at the Chancery Office of the Diocese of Kansas City in art research from 1990-1995. S. Colette continued as an artist in residence until her passing.

Funeral arrangements are set for Friday, December 30 at St. Thomas More Catholic Church, 11822 Holmes Rd., Kansas City, MO 64131. The wake will be at noon followed by the Mass of Christian Burial at 12:45 p.m. Burial will be at Mt. St. Mary's Cemetery, 2201 Cleveland Ave., Kansas City, MO 64127.
