Sister Alexandra Kuhn Turns 100

Sister Mary Alexandra Kuhn, CSJ, a resident of Nazareth Living Center in South County, celebrated her 100th birthday on August 14.

When Sister Alexandra moved to Nazareth in 1993 after retiring from a 50-year career as a science teacher, she translated her science acumen into a legendary green thumb.

Today Sister Alexandra is still filling up the windowsills with her plants and even sells them at Nazareth's fall craft sale. "I really enjoyed teaching biology and I brought that love with me out to Nazareth," she says.

Along with celebrating her birthday with her community of Sisters of St. Joseph, Sister Alexandra's nieces and nephews marked the special occasion with a memory book and a family gathering at Our Lady of the Snows.

Sister Alexandra's advice for longevity is to "keep occupied and do all that you are capable of doing." She also credits the advice of her mother who always told her, "If you want something, do it!"
