Please pray for the repose of the soul of Sister Theresa Desrochers (S. Honora Marie) who passed away on Oct. 21 at the St. Clare Health Center in Fenton, Mo. She was 82 years old.

Sister Theresa was born to parents Lloyd Telephorus and Honora (Hayden) Desrochers on September 26, 1930, in Rudyard, Mich. She entered the Sisters of St. Joseph on September 15, 1948, and made her final profession on August 15, 1956. She received her bachelor’s degree in history from Fontbonne College (St. Louis) in 1958 and a master’s in elementary education administration from St. Xavier College (Chicago, Ill.) in 1967.

Sister Theresa spent the first 33 years of her career in education. For the first nine years, she taught in St. Louis at Holy Guardian Angels (1951-1956), All Saints (1956-1959) St. Thomas of Aquin (1959-1960) and Sts. Mary and Joseph (1960-1961) grade schools. She then moved south to Mobile, Ala., and taught for a year at Little Flower Grade School.

She returned to Missouri as teacher and principal for Notre Dame Grade School in Wellston from 1962-1965. After that, St. Thomas the Apostle Grade School in Florissant (1965-1970),  St. Anthony of Padua Grade School in St. Louis (1970-1976) and St. Patrick Grade School in St. Joseph (1976-1982). Her final two years as a teacher were at St. Adalbert Grade School in St. Louis.

In 1984, Sister Theresa shifted seats from her classroom desk to an office desk at Nazareth Living Center where she served for 27 years. Over the years, she worked as the assistant treasurer, a business office clerk/bookkeeper and a volunteer/community life bookkeeper.

Sister Theresa moved to NLC as a resident in 2011, ministering in prayer and witness.

A Mass of the Resurrection was held for Sister Theresa on Oct. 23 at the Nazareth Living Center Chapel. She is buried at Resurrection Cemetery.
