S. Mary Louise Gagnon 1906-2012

Please pray for the repose of the soul of Sister Mary Louise Gagnon who passed away on July 13 of chronic respiratory failure at Nazareth Living Center in St. Louis. She was 105 years old.
S. Mary Louise was born on December 4, 1906 in Marinette, Wisconsin to Gertrude (Gordon) and Joseph A. Gagnon. On Sept. 8, 1927, S. Mary Louise entered the Sisters of St. Joseph of Carondelet. She made her final vows on Aug. 15, 1933. S. Mary Louise received a bachelor's degree in elementary education from Fontbonne College (now University) in 1950.
S. Mary Louise devoted 57 years to teaching elementary students beginning in 1930 at Our Lady of Guadalupe in Kansas City, Mo. In the 1930s she taught in Denver, Colo. at St. Patrick Grade School; in the 1940s in St. Louis, Mo. at St. Margaret of Scotland Grade School and in 1950s in St. Joseph, Mo. at Immaculate Conception Grade School.
Sister taught at Sacred Heart Grade School in L'Anse Mich. in 1959-1963 and again in 1974-1978. In 1963 S. Mary Louise taught at St. Joseph Grade School in Marietta, Ga. In the 1960s, 70s and 80s she taught in Wisconsin at St. Joseph Grade School in West De Pere, at St. Peter Grade School in Oconto and at St. John Grade School in Green Bay.
S. Mary Louise retired to St. Joseph's Academy Convent, Green Bay in 1987 and moved to Nazareth Living Center in 1990 where she continued her mission of prayer and witness for the last 22 years.
Funeral arrangements are planned for Wednesday, July 18 at Nazareth Living Center Chapel, 2 Nazareth Lane, St. Louis, MO 63129. The wake is at 9:00 a.m. followed by the funeral mass at 10:00 a.m. Burial will be at Resurrection Cemetery.
