S. Mary Kay Dowling Honored in Arch. of Chicago

Sister Mary Kay Dowling, fourth grade teacher at St. Helen School in Chicago, is a winner of the 2010 Distinguished Service Award from the Archdiocese of Chicago's Office of Catholic Schools. Twenty-five recipients were chosen from a potential pool of more than 5,300 educators in 255 area schools.

Sister Mary Kay has been teaching in the Archdiocese of Chicago since 1984 and at St. Helen since 2005. In addition to her work in the classroom, she founded St. Helen’s Service Club and has written grants to secure extra educational resources for St. Helen students, including art prints from Picturing America and books from the We the People Bookshelf.

“I love coming to work every day and helping children to become closer to God and work toward peace in their world,” she says. "It is exciting to be part of a school community that is so warm and caring."
