Province Leadership Welcomes Ferguson Police Chief

On May 10, the Province Leadership sent the following letter to Chief Delrish Moss, welcoming him to his new role as chief of Police in Ferguson, Missouri.

Dear Chief Moss,

Welcome to the Greater St. Louis Community and congratulations on your selection and today’s swearing in as Chief of Police for Ferguson. We join with your city’s elected officials in “having faith” in you and the people Ferguson.

Your recognition as an experienced leader in law enforcement and community engagement as well as your “let’s get to work” attitude will energize our culture.  We look forward to the restoration of “nobility” for our police, through hard, honest and committed work and respect for the community.  In addition, we applaud your past involvement in and look forward to your continued work with organizations combating issues such as teen pregnancy, drug and alcohol abuse, and violence. May your efforts to increase the positive interactions between police and youth and connecting with residents and business owners become part of the healing.

St. Louis has been our home since 1836, so we hope that you too will come to love and nourish the dear neighbor here. We pray that your goal of making the community safer and long-held desire for fair treatment will be fulfilled.

Sincerely,

Sisters of St. Joseph of Carondelet Province Leadership
