70th Jubilee

Sister Clara Vincent Slatinsky, baptized Rita Clara, was born in Sedalia, Missouri. She entered the Sisters of St. Joseph of Carondelet in 1946 and was received into the novitiate in 1947. She earned a bachelor’s degree in nursing from the College of St. Teresa (now Avila University) in 1953.

Sister Clara Vincent dedicated her years of service to health care ministry, both as a nurse and hospital chaplain.

She began in 1949 in Kansas City at St. Joseph Hospital as a student in geriatric care and progressed to nursing supervisor in 1953. She was also a nursing supervisor at St. Joseph Hospital in Kirkwood, Missouri, and at St. Joseph Community Hospital in Hancock, Michigan.

She served as a staff nurse at Nazareth Convent in St. Louis (1958-1960) and St. Joseph Community Hospital in Hancock (1960-1962).  She then was a nursing supervisor at St. Joseph Hospital in Kirkwood and St. Joseph Hospital in Kansas City.

From 1964 to 1969, Sister Clara Vincent served as a staff nurse at a variety of facilities in the St. Louis area: Nazareth Living Center, St. Joseph Hospital and Nazareth Convent.

Sister Clara Vincent dedicated the next 45 years of service to St. Joseph Hospital-Center for Life in Augusta, Georgia. From 1969 to 1996, she was a staff nurse, then transitioned to hospital chaplain through 2008. She continued as staff chaplain at Trinity Hospital of Augusta until 2014.

In 2014, Sister Clara Vincent retired to Nazareth Living Center in St. Louis where she continues to carry out her ministry of prayer and presence.
